The Automation Engineer/Specialist position is a subject matter expert for automation, electrical and control systems, they form part of the Automation Team at our client's facility in the SE Suburbs.

The focus of this role is to ensure reliability, robustness, throughput and security of new and existing equipment/systems. This is done by completing or contributing towards projects and implementing other minor modifications/changes as required. This role contributes to the overall plan towards Industry 4.0 and the integration of other business systems such as SAP with factory automation.Additionally, this position supports the factory with day to day issues that arise involving the automation and electrical systems including PLC/SCADA and other OT software.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

PROJECT SUPPORT/SYSTEM DESIGN

• Implement PLC hardware and software changes - implement minor projects and participate as a team member for larger projects

• Make changes to HMIs/SCADAs and other OT systems as required

• Undertake electrical designs

• Produce electrical drawings for modifications

• Prepare design specifications and work packages for Technicians and Contractors

• Develop User Requirement Specifications (URS) and Qualification documents (IQ/OQ/PQ)

• Complete commissioning and validation/qualification where required

• Design, program and document small automation projects autonomously

• Coordinate contractors and tradespeople to perform automation works including both software and hardware

DAY TO DAY SUPPORT

Provide technical support to resolve day to day issues on the PLC network, servers and automation software

• Support Technicians with troubleshooting issues related to automation

• Investigate deviation incidents and implement corrective actions

• Become subject matter expert for automation system software (Iltis, 3WS, C# applications)

• Administer and manage applications on the factory network such as 3WS and user management on Active Directory

• Update and upgrade automation and Windows operating systems to ensure that cyber security risks are minimised

• Provide support to production on new equipment

DOCUMENTATION

Ensure that adequate and accurate documentation is generated and stored with a high attention to detail

• Manage and complete electrical drawing updates

• Perform critical spares assessments

• Ensure software backups are correctly stored in the backups repository

• Ensure that appropriate system documentation is filed in the Engineering DMS folders

• Ensure that safety design, validation and testing documentation is filed in the Engineering DMS folders

• Complete Change Management documentation GXP

Ensure the principles of GxP are observed through all activities

• Maintain an understanding of the principles of GxP

• Ensure routine tasks are covered by approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

• Ensure relevant changes are covered by Change Control Procedures (CCPs) with appropriate authorisation and testing

WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS/SELECTION CRITERIA

EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor or Diploma of Engineering (Electrical, Mechatronics or Software(desirable)

  • EXPERIENCE
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment or as a system integrator (pharmaceutical, cosmetics, food or chemical industries would be relevant) is desirable

  • REQUIRED SKILLS

    Strong fault finding and problem solving abilities

    Ability to work effectively in a team or individually

    High attention to detail

    Good communication skills, both written and oral

    Experience programming, maintaining and commissioning PLC hardware and software (Siemens, Allen-Bradley etc.)

    Experience configuring, maintaining and commissioning SCADA/Historian/OPC software packages (desirable)

    Programming experience (.NET C#) (desirable)

    Understanding of industrial Ethernet networks (VLANs, subnets) (desirable)

    Experience designing safety systems in accordance with AS/NZS 4024 (desirable)

    Electrical drawing design and updating (AutoCAD or similar) (desirable)

    GAMP5 experience (desirable)

    HEALTH AND SAFETY

    • Participate in work area inspections and equipment evaluation

    • Contribute to plant and equipment risk assessments

    • Ensure staff, contractors and vendors are advised of, understand and apply the OH&S procedure

    CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT

    • Participate in any Continuous Improvement programs e.g. 5S

    • Contribute improvement suggestions, especially in regard to working efficiently
